General Questions
I am a Sub-Contractor; how do I obtain a Non-Taxable Transaction Certificate (NTTC)?
Contact your General Contractor. The general contractor will submit a Form 604-A to our office for review and approval. Upon approval, ONTC will mail NTTCs to the general contractor. This Non-Taxable Transaction Certificate is applicable to Navajo Nation sales tax only.
What is the Sales tax rate?
6%. The sales tax applies to all gross receipts received for sales of goods and services when the sale is made within the Navajo Nation. The only relevant issue regarding the sale of goods is where the sale is made. The tax does not apply to sale of goods when the sale takes place outside the Navajo Nation. This is true even when the product will be brought into or used in the Nation.
Registration
How do I register my business with the Office of Navajo Tax Commission?
Complete a Form 100. There is no fee to get registered with our office. You may mail the completed form to our mailing address, or email to our main email address.
Do I need to file a Form 100 every year?
Yes. To avoid a penalty fee, Form 100 should be filed by January 15th.
Payment
What form of payments are acceptable?
Cashier's check, money order, or ACH/Wire Transfer payments. Currently, our office does not accept credit or debit cards. Please make payments payable to Navajo Nation or Office of the Navajo Tax Commission. Contact our office to obtain ACH information.
When can I expect my check to clear?
Allow 2-3 days for payment processing. However, this timeframe may be extended if the payment is made during peak periods, such as quarterly deadlines.
Are payment plans an option if you owe taxes?
Payment plants are only available if you were issued an assessment from ONTC. ONTC will review the plan, and either approve or deny the request for a payment plan.
